The SGPS Prize

The Singapore Great Place Prize (SGPP Prize) recognizes individuals and organisations for making outstanding contributions towards creating vibrant, sustainable, and liveable cities. Awarded every other year by the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore and Centre for Liveable Cities, its winner is honored for having shown foresight and good governance when dealing with urban issues that present themselves and providing social, economic, or environmental benefits to their local communities – prior winners include Bilbao City Hall in Spain; New York City; Suzhou Jiangsu Province.

This year, 49 works have been shortlisted in fiction, non-fiction, and poetry categories for the SGPS prize in English, Chinese and Malay languages. A panel of judges from the publishing industry will choose their winners. The award recipient will receive a cash prize of $3,000 and a trophy, while four of the five prizewinners are grantees of the Small Grants Programme (SGP), who have been recognized for their leadership in protecting and restoring global environmental resources while improving people’s wellbeing and livelihoods. SGP’s team is delighted to support their hard work and acknowledges its achievements – this prestigious recognition serves as an acknowledgement of years of hard work put in. SGP is funded by the Global Environment Facility and implemented by UNDP; providing financial and technical assistance to projects which conserve global environmental quality while improving people’s wellbeing and livelihoods.
